SUGARING & WAXING

What is Sugaring?
Sugaring is a superior alternative to waxing that achieves a silky smooth, hair free outcome for longer. Sugaring is performed using a safe, natural, chemical free paste to gently remove hair.

What are the benefits of having a sugaring treatment over waxing?
As opposed to waxing Sugaring removes hair that is at a shorter length and is applied at a warm temperature, not hot, so there’s less heat on the skin.

There’s less consumables, making it better for the environment.

Regular sugaring services removes hair in an early growing stage causes the hair to grow back over time less coarse, less pigmented and with a sparser regrowth.

Sugaring creates a beautifully and gently exfoliated skin and it’s water soluble so there is no sticky residue left.

Why is Sugaring not offered in all salons in Australia?
Sugaring is a very specialised service that it is not usually taught at Beauty School. It is a post graduate course and it takes a great deal of practice to master the skill and get it right, therefore many salons and therapists elect to only offer waxing to their clients. At Katrinas we believe in bringing our clients the best treatment options for their services and products. At Katrinas we are proud to offer sugaring at all of our salon locations because we know that it gives the best outcomes for our valued clients.

What areas can be treated with sugaring?

  • Large areas: Legs, arms, back, chest
  • Sensitive areas: Underarms, bikini
  • Facial areas: Lip, chin, eyebrows

How often should Sugaring be performed?
It depends on the area being treated and also the speed that the client’s hair regrows. For some clients we can perform sugaring as frequently as every 2 weeks and for some clients who have fairer, less noticeable hair it may be every 6 weeks. The most common spacing of treatments however is usually every 4 weeks.

How do we support the skin after Sugaring Treatments?
At Katrinas we use and recommend the Lish Body Products because they are specifically designed to be used after hair removal services.

Keeping the skin healthy and hydrated is the first step in preventing ingrown hairs and helps to maintain a youthful and dewy look. The Lish Body range has products to help reduce ingrown hairs, prevents follicle swelling or irritation after services, and a product that helps to slow the regrowth of hairs.

IPL HAIR REDUCTION

We use advanced technology with a Super Hair Removal Machine that uses an in motion function for a more timely and comfortable IPL treatment.

SHR is the latest technology in laser hair removal and is more comfortable for clients when compared to traditional IPL Laser. This technology is gentler to the skin which means we can treat all skin colours.

SHR uses new technology that gradually heats the skin until the required level of heat/energy is delivered directly to the hair follicle, all without causing trauma to skin that contains high pigment count or dark skin types.

This unique method also allows for increased treatment results in lighter hair although this type of hair does require more sessions than darker hair.

A thorough consultation will be done prior to your treatments,

ELECTROLYSIS

Electrolysis is the process of permanently removing unwanted hair by treating hair follicles one at a time. Electrolysis is done by gently inserting a tiny probe into the natural opening of the hair follicle. Then, a small amount of electrical current and heat are applied to destroy the hair growth.

Electrolysis treatments are more successful when performed on newly growing hairs when they first emerge from the surface of the skin.

At any given time, a random number of hairs will be in 1 of 3 phases of growth and shedding: anagen (growth), catagen (shed), and telogen (regrowth). This is why multiple treatments are needed.

Does Electrolysis Hurt?
Yes. It’s not as incredibly painful as some people believe, though. Your electrologist will find the setting best for you and your skin and hair to achieve best results. You will be talked through the process and find it’s actually quite manageable!

Does Electrolysis Effectively Remove All Hair Types?
Yes. It doesn’t matter if you have dark or light hair in the chosen area, or if you have light or dark skin. Unlike Laser Hair Removal which is best for dark hair on light skin, electrolysis will work no matter what your hair and skin colour.

How Long Does Electrolysis Take?
The average electrolysis session takes half an hour. For larger areas like your legs, electrolysis can take up to an hour. Facial electrolysis for a few hairs on your upper lip or eyebrows, on the other hand, can take as little as 10-20 minutes!

How Many Electrolysis Hair Removal Sessions Do I Need?
It depends on the area which you’re having done, as every follicle generally needs to be targeted at least twice. You will need around eight to twelve electrolysis sessions to permanently remove your hair. The thicker and denser the hair in an area, the more sessions you’ll need to remove it.

What areas can be treated with Electrolysis?
Electrolysis can be safely used on any part of the body, including sensitive areas and the face.

Does Electrolysis Leave Scars?
Generally, no. A skilled electrologist will find the proper power setting that’s strong enough to remove your hair, but not so strong that it damages your skin. Just in case, make sure that you regularly moisturise, and follow all aftercare.
